Obituary for Donna Sue Cornwell

Donna Sue Cornwell of Manassas, Virginia, passed away on 06/09/2022, due to Alzheimer’s. Donna was born in Warrenton, Virginia, on June 14, 1951, to the late Emory Lee Cornwell and Mary Augustine Cornwell (Mizell). Her parents built, and her family operated Cornwell’s service station for sixty-six years. Donna Cornwell graduated from Osbourn High School in Manassas, Virginia, in 1970. After high school, she worked for Giant Food Stores for over thirty-five years. She started as a cashier and worked her way up to Assistant Manager. Donna moved to Spotsylvania, Virginia, in 1991 and lived there until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016. She then moved back to Manassas to be close to her family.
Surviving Ms. Cornwell are her daughters: Lisa Ritter (Steve) and Vicki Wolfington (Adrian); her grand-daughter Alex, grandson Graham, and great-grandson Connor; her brothers and sister: Ronnie Cornwell (Anna Marie), Debbie Vandyke, and Steve Cornwell (Christine). She also has several nieces, a nephew, great nieces, and great nephews. Other than her parents, Donna is predeceased by her sister, Barbara Cornwell, who passed away in March of 2021.
Donna was very active in her church. She enjoyed helping others and was also a lover of the outdoors. One of her favorite things was music and going to concerts with her family. She also loved to drive; she knew how to drive all the trucks (including a wrecker) that were part of her parents’ business.
The viewing will be held on June 16, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St. Manassas, VA 20110. A service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on June 17, 2022, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home. The burial will be held immediately afterwards at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, Virginia.
